Piticchio

A village where time stands still

Piticchio is a mediaeval village in the Marche region located 400 m a.s.l. in the municipality of Arcevia in the province of Ancona. It is stated by various historians that it arose on the ruins of the Roman city of Pitulum, still of uncertain identification. The small village of Piticchio is enclosed inside walls with an irregular pattern. At the top, in the stretch that goes from east to west, there are four towers that protrude from the castle walls. The internal traffic consists of the patrol walkway and a series of stone alleys perpendicular to the main road that cuts through the village in a north-south direction. The Church of San Sebastiano, overlooking a square in the east direction, is worth a visit.
