Serra San Quirico
The origins of Serra San Quirico are uncertain. Some archaeological finds would date back to the first settlements in pre-Roman times. Subsequently, the Romans, in order to control the strategic passage from the Gola della Rossa, founded a military garrison around which, probably, the original village developed.

It was destroyed by the barbarian invasions and in the early years of 1000 San Romualdo contributed to the rebirth of the country by building a church of San Quirico.

Thanks to the intervention of the Papal State in the twelfth century it became a citadel with its fortifications for the protection of the surrounding area. Until the seventeenth century it was a free municipality and had its own statute. Subsequently, with the reform of the Papal State, it lost all its power and political rights.
